High-quality tree planting projects have several characteristics: they plant native species suited to the local environment, involve and benefit local communities, monitor survival rates over time, and take a holistic approach to landscape restoration – not just planting trees in isolation.

The best schemes also address threats like fire, drought, and grazing animals, and have contingency plans to replant if survival rates drop. At Ecologi, all our reforestation partners meet these criteria. We conduct detailed due diligence before funding any project and monitor sites using satellite technology to track growth and detect risks.

Tree planting costs vary by location and project type, reflecting the real costs of quality reforestation. Prices range from £0.60 per tree for global projects to £5.45 per tree for Brazilian native planting.

Why the difference? UK projects involve higher labour costs and more expensive native species. Projects in other regions can often plant trees more affordably while still delivering high-quality, community-led restoration. All pricing is transparent and covers not just planting, but also site preparation, monitoring, community engagement, and long-term stewardship – everything needed for trees to survive and ecosystems to thrive.

Most tree planting projects cannot be used for verified carbon offsetting. While trees sequester carbon over their lifetime, they don't do so immediately or predictably enough to count as verified offsets.

The exception to this rule is trees planted as part of Afforestation, Reforestation & Revegetation (ARR) projects. ARR trees are accurately monitored to measure the amount of CO2 that they have removed from the atmosphere and do generate carbon removal credits.

We use a two-tier monitoring approach. First, our reforestation partners conduct regular on-the-ground assessments, reporting survival rates and project outcomes every six months. Second, Ecologi uses satellite monitoring technology through Earth Blox to track vegetation growth, forest health, and hazards like fire and drought across all project sites.

If survival rates fall below agreed thresholds, our partners replant trees at no extra cost. This dual approach ensures accountability and gives you confidence that the trees you fund are actually growing and contributing to ecosystem restoration. All updates are shared transparently with our community.
