Example Peatland restoration in the UK project

Peatland restoration in the UK

£5.50/m2

The impact you will be making

Since March 2025 there have been 30+ moorland fires in the Peak District and South Pennines. This project plants sphagnum moss to restore peatland, capture carbon and enhance biodiversity.

Planting sphagnum moss plugs will:

  • Combat biodiversity decline
  • Support healthy blanket bogs
  • Slow water runoff and erosion
  • Increase wildfire resilience
  • Enhance long-term carbon storage

Why support peatland restoration?

Peatlands are one of the planet's most important ecosystems, playing a crucial role in carbon storage. Although they cover just 3% of the Earth's land surface, these carbon-dense wetlands hold a significant share of the world's soil carbon. Though peatlands make up around 12% of the UK's land area, it's estimated that around 80% are currently degraded or in decline, limiting their ability to function as effective carbon sinks and vital habitats.
