An energy source is considered ‘<a href="https://www.un.org/en/climatechange/what-is-renewable-energy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">renewable</a>’ if it comes from a natural source that can be replenished faster than it’s consumed. Each quarter, we select a new renewable energy project to support. We’ve funded over 40 projects around the world, including <a href="https://ecologi.com/projects/wind-power-project-in-thailand" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wind power in Thailand</a>, <a href="https://ecologi.com/projects/solar-power-project-vietnam" target="_blank" rel="noopener">solar power generation in Vietnam</a>, <a href="https://ecologi.com/projects/waste-biomass-electricity-chile" target="_blank" rel="noopener">electricity production through waste biomass in Chile</a>, <a href="https://ecologi.com/projects/landfill-gas-to-energy-turkey" target="_blank" rel="noopener">landfill gas capture in Turkey</a>, and electricity generated from a <a href="https://ecologi.com/projects/generating-clean-electrcity-from-hydropower-in-india" target="_blank" rel="noopener">small hydropower project in India</a>. 
Every renewable energy project we offer is certified by the <a href="https://www.goldstandard.org/">Gold Standard</a> or the <a href="https://verra.org/project/vcs-program/">Verified Carbon Standard</a>, while contributing to as many of the UN&#8217;s <a href="https://sdgs.un.org/goals">Sustainable Development Goals</a> as possible. All projects verified by these standards are additional, meaning that the emissions reductions wouldn’t have been made without the project’s existence. 
To ensure that the projects available on the Impact Shop are always of the highest quality, we thoroughly scrutinise each one by following an in-house due diligence process. When selecting renewable energy projects, factors we consider include prioritising projects in countries that don’t already have a heavy renewable energy mix, making the project more impactful. We’re also incredibly selective about the type of renewable energy projects we support, meaning that we don’t support large-scale hydroelectric projects due to their negative environmental impact.
