Carbon avoidance
Transforming waste into biogas in Cambodia
In Cambodia, over 85% of the rural population lacks access to electricity, creating significant barriers to economic development and modern living standards. The Biodigester Program addresses these challenges by introducing biodigesters that convert livestock and agricultural waste into clean biogas and organic fertiliser. This innovative solution reduces dependence on polluting fuels, mitigates deforestation, and enhances the quality of life for rural communities.
Project timeline
How do we rate this project?
The program improves agricultural productivity and food security by providing organic fertiliser, enhancing soil quality, and increasing crop yields, which boosts farmer incomes and supports sustainable farming practices.
By converting agricultural waste into clean biogas, the program ensures access to affordable, sustainable energy for rural households, reducing reliance on polluting biomass and fossil fuels for cooking and lighting.
The program mitigates climate change by lowering greenhouse gas emissions through reduced deforestation and the use of renewable biogas, preventing methane emissions from decomposing organic waste.
