1. Commit
Your business has the power to be a force for good, and you know it’s time to act. You’ve heard about the concept for net-zero and you know it’s a steep challenge, but you’re inspired to make the long-term commitment it requires. You know you can’t do it alone – that you’re going to need a guide as a partner to make net-zero viable – and that’s where Ecologi comes in. You sign up.
2. Calculate
After you’ve signed up, you connect your Xero business accounting software to the Ecologi Zero app. There, you calculate your emissions for free and discover your starting-point carbon footprint. From there, you identify your emissions hotpots and flag the biggest opportunities for reduction.
3. Strategy and Target
Here’s where it gets juicy: now you can use that information to identify the most efficient strategy to start to decarbonise your operations. In this phase, you set targets against that strategy to reduce your emissions by a minimum of 90% (more on that in a moment).
4. Reduce and Engage
Here’s where you implement the plan to reduce your business’s emissions. You already know that this process will require patience, but the rewards will be great – so knuckle down and start tackling those emissions hotspots, one after the other. As you set and meet those targets, you drive accountability and enjoy incremental victories along the way.
5. Remove
As you move along your journey to net-zero, you fund reputable climate action through carbon credits, tree planting and research in order to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change.
When you’ve succeeded in reducing your emissions by at least 90%, it’s time to take care of the rest. In this step, you fund the removal of the emissions you can’t reduce using *carbon removal credits. Under the SBTI standard, this can be up to 10% of your base year’s emissions.

6. Certify
In the not-too-distant future, we’ll be rolling out Ecologi Zero Certified: a verification built on the leading international benchmark: the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) Net-Zero Standard. When we do, we’ll guide you through the full process of achieving the recognition your business deserves for meeting this significant goal.
