Our first year in numbers
Elliot Coad
12 months after launching we’ve got some wonderful stats that we’d like to share with you.
Early on we’d set out a formidable 10 year plan to reach 600 million members to avert 3/4 of all global CO2 emissions. So, year one needed to be a cracker.
As we got going there was an inevitable feeling of things going slowly. We went from zero to 10 members, and then to 100, and then 1k, and then 10k. But at each step it didn’t take 10 times the amount of time to add a zero; this is incredibly encouraging as we look forward.
Thank you for supporting the climate this year. There’s a heck of a mountain to climb, but we’re mega chuffed of what we’ve achieved together 🍃

We’ve just filled up our initial 3,385 acre land in Madagascar with over two million mangrove trees, so we’ll be moving further along the coast shortly. We’ve planted over 126k trees in partnership with The Intrepid Foundation in the Kijabe Forest, Kenya. And we’ve just got going with planting closer to home: Appalachia in the States, wildfire stricken Australia in New South Wales, and Dalry, Scotland.

This is everyone who has gone Climate Positive through our individual subscriptions, as well as the adults in our family plans, and all team members in the Climate Positive Workforce. This is equivalent to the population of Bridport, the most famous place on Earth (according to the birth place of our co-founder Lucy) going carbon neutral.

We’re loving seeing businesses come on board. By offering them a simple way to get involved and take steps to make their business more sustainable. We’re looking forward to welcoming many more over the next few months.

For the 1 million e-commerce stores with Shopify, we have an app that can be dropped in and set up in minutes. It’s wonderful to see stores taking it up on such a scale with hundreds of trees being planted everyday.

Just a smidgen off 100k tonnes of CO2 removed or prevented from entering the atmosphere with carbon offsets certified at the highest standards. That’s the equivalent to taking 21,000 cars off the road.

With all our carbon impact combined, that’s the same amount of CO2 saved as burning 1.8 million barrels of oil ✊
*It is estimated our planted trees will capture this amount of CO2 over a 25 year lifespan.

Our climate action comes in many forms: repairing water boreholes in Malawi, sanitising Thailand’s largest landfill methane problem, protecting the Amazon in Peru with micro satellites, distributing cooking stoves to the 3 billion without, and supporting wind, solar, and reforestation.
